Juicy Roast Turkey

If you want to eat a hot and juicy turkey on Thanksgiving Day, use a roaster oven. Most people don't have enough stoves and ovens to cook all the food at one time. We can't cook the turkey and casseroles at the same time in the oven. There's just not enough room. A couple of years ago, I started to use a roaster oven  for cooking the turkey now I can use the oven for cooking the other goodies like cakes, pies, rolls, and casseroles. How to cook your turkey in a roaster pan….First thaw your turkey. Depending on the size of the turkey, it can take 2-4 days to thaw out the turkey in the refrigerator. Once the turkey is thawed, remove the small packages stuffed in the turkey. This package usually contains the neck, liver, heart, and sometime a package of gravy. I usually rinse off the neck, liver, and heart and place them in a saucepan with water and boil to make a broth used for stuffing. I usually discard the package of gravy since I usually make my own.Make sure to rinse the turkey and then pat dry with paper towels. I like to sprinkle salt, pepper, and sage on the inside and outside of the turkey. I then rub a ½ stick of butter inside and outside of the turkey as well. I make stuffing in a baking pan so the turkey is typically not stuffed. At this point, I place the turkey in a turkey oven bag and tie it up (I highly recommend using the turkey bags. This will keep the moisture locked in the turkey). I usually place a cooking rack on the bottom of the roaster and then place the turkey in the roaster oven . Follow the cooking directions on the turkey tag to make sure you have the correct pounds to hours for fully cooked turkey.I started using a roasting pan for cooking the turkey a couple of years ago. Now we don’t have to wait on the casseroles to get done last while everything else was getting cold.
